What makes this Orange County’s scariest escape room
Most “horror” escape rooms in OC are rebranded mystery rooms with dim lighting. The Zombie Lab was built as a horror experience from the ground up — custom sound design, animatronic effects, real set pieces you’d expect in a Halloween theme park, and a story that ramps up in intensity as you move deeper into Dr. Jorg’s lab. You’ve seen the videos on our TikTok — now do it live.
How scary is it, really?
Honest answer: scary enough that we warn first-timers. Expect mild jump scares, loud sound cues, low light, and close-quarters tension. It’s not a haunted house with actors chasing you. It’s a puzzle room with atmosphere — the horror is environmental, not physical. Players 13+ who enjoy horror movies will love it. Players who don’t do spooky should book The Magic Cottage instead.
Perfect for
- Halloween season (Sep–Nov) — our most booked period, book 4+ weeks out.
- Horror movie fans — if you’ve seen the Saw, Resident Evil, or 28 Days Later franchises, this hits the same nerve.
- Couples who want a scream-and-hug date night — see our date night page.
- Bachelor/bachelorette parties wanting something besides another club night.
- Teen birthdays (13+) — a rite of passage for the kid whose friends claim they can handle anything.
- Team-building groups with a thick-skinned team culture.
What press + players say
“Our favorite zombie-themed escape room. It combines technology, animatronics, and a beautiful set with a strong narrative to create a memorable and immersive experience.”
— Haunting.net, review of Dr. Jorg’s Lab
“Incredibly life-like animatronics, clever puzzles, and a narrative that leaves you on the edge of your seat.”
How to prepare (or not)
Don’t over-research. The fun is discovering the story. Wear comfortable shoes — there’s movement. Leave drinks outside. Do not bring your phone inside (we’ll provide hints if you need them). Arrive 15 minutes early for briefing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there actors who touch you?
No. The scares are environmental — sound, light, animatronic effects, set pieces. No one jumps out and grabs you.
Can I leave if it’s too scary?
Yes. Any player can exit at any time. We’ll unlock the door immediately — no judgment. You’re paying for fun, not for trauma.
Is it darker than other escape rooms?
Yes. Low-light by design. If someone in your group is legitimately afraid of the dark, book Magic Cottage instead.
Age minimum?
13+. Younger players can technically enter with a parent, but we strongly discourage it. The atmosphere is built for teens and adults.
Is it scarier than The 17th Door or Escapade’s “Zoe”?
Different format. The 17th Door is a walk-through haunt (actors, chase). Zoe is a horror escape room like ours. We think Zombie Lab has better puzzle design and a more sustained atmosphere — but you should do both and pick your favorite.
Halloween specials?
Yes. Each October we run extended hours and themed modifications. Follow us on Instagram for dates.
